Under new ownership, the English Pub & Bistro in downtown Ravenna is expanding its menu and adding a variety of beverages for noontime and evening diners.
Located on the ground floor of the Lan Building at the corner of Pratt Street and East Main across from CVS, the English Pub & Bistro offers friendly service in comfortable dining room surroundings of woodwork and wainscoting, with pictorial scenes reminiscent of what one might find in a neighborhood pub somewhere in the English countryside.
The restaurant has a dining room and a banquet room. Beth Hudson, the owner, said she plans to add a wine bar in the banquet room to display some of the fine wines she is introducing.
"We're already serving 16 wine varieties," she said. She plans to add to the list. Customers buying by the bottle can cork the bottle and take home what is not consumed at the table. Hudson is also adding craft beers to the standard brands.
She is featuring businessmen's lunches, "guaranteed to be in and out in under an hour," which will be good news for attorneys and businessmen who are usually pressed for time.
A patio on the restaurant's south end will be opened as the weather improves where customers will dine at tables with umbrellas in a garden-like atmosphere.
Dinners of steaks and other meat dishes are priced in the middle teens, not including alcoholic beverages. Most wines are in the $5 and up per glass range. Lunches are under $10.
On most Saturday nights, she already has added live entertainment tapping into the musical talent that's in Northeast Ohio. "It's fun here Saturdays," she said. Check the paper or Facebook for the schedule.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sundays, when liver and onions will be one of the specials.
The restaurant will be a comfortable and friendly environment for those who stop in after work or golf or church, Hudson said. The English Pub & Bistro has long been known for its steaks and hamburgers. Hudson, who's owned the restaurant for two months and also operates a title business, said she is expanding the menu to include new specials, some of them reflecting healthy diet options.
"We hope people check us out. They'll like what they find," Hudson said.
